GMA Network , maintains its strong hold on the No.1 spot, as proven by the impressive viewership ratings posted by all of its new programs versus their counterparts in the rival network and how practically none of the shows the competition launched recently rated higher than their GMA-7 rival programs, based on ratings generated from AGBNMR Philippines’ Mega Manila TV Households data for July-August 2006.
On August 14, GMA-7 premiered the Koreanovela Love Story in Harvard (LSH), which consistently posted high ratings, with an average of 26.2 for July-August 2006 despite the three ABS-CBN programs that were pitted against it: My Girl (which posted 24.8), A Love to Kill(which posted only 16.2), and Maalaala Mo Kaya (which rated 24.3).Another new Koreanovela in the late morning timeslot, Yellow Handkerchief (launched on July 31), attained an average of 16.9 vs. Princess Lulu By Request’s 11.1. Meanwhile, Princess Lulu By Request’s 10.7 rating also succumbed to GMA-7’s House Husband’s high 18.7. GMA-7’s rerun of the phenomenal Jewel in the Palace (By
Popular Demand), this time in the early evening timeslot starting July 10, rated a high 18.1 vs. ABS-CBN’s Calla Lily’s 13.1, and 18.2 vs. Pangako Sa’Yo’s (also a rerun) 15.9.
Other new GMA-7 shows launched in the July-August period which rated higher than their ABS-CBN counterparts were: 100% Pinoy with 7.8 vs. Games Uplate Live’s 1.7, and 7.9 vs. Mirada de Mujer’s 3.7; Pretear (4.8) vs. Salamat Dok (2.7); The Slayers with 10.4 vs. Yakitate Japan’s 8.0, and 11.3 vs. Yu-Gi-Oh GX’s 10.3; and Pinakamamahal (14.2) vs. Kapamilya Cinema (13.2).
Based on overnight ratings for August 28-30, none of the three shows launched by ABS-CBN on August 28 were able to beat their GMA-7 counterparts. GMA-7 primetime programs Majika and Love Story in Harvard maintained their lead with 35.8 and 27.6 respectively vs. their new ABS-CBN counterparts: Super Inggo at 31.5 and Pinoy Dream Academy, which only rated 17.9. GMA KiliTV program Lagot Ka, Isusumbong Kita also maintained its lead at 13.2 vs. the rival network’s new Noypi Ikaw Ba `To? at 9.0.
GMA-7’s Saturday primetime programs Pinoy Pop Superstar and Bitoy’s Funniest Videos remained at the top spots against the new ABS-CBN comedy program launched last July 29, John En Shirley, which rated 20.4 vs. PPS’s 22.3 and BFV’s 26.1 (even as the two GMA-7 programs
switched timeslots).
GMA KiliTV’s weeknight offerings also posted high ratings against Bandila since Bandila was launched last July 3. Lagot Ka, Isusumbong Kita averaged 13.8, Bahay Mo Ba `To? at 14.9, Nuts Entertainment at 15.9, and Bubble Gang at 17.4 vs. the new ABS-CBN late-evening news program’s average of 10.0. Magpakailanman also rated high at 17.4 vs. Bandila’s 10.0.
The other programs launched by ABS-CBN in the July-August period also failed to out-rate their GMA-7 counterparts such as: Yu-Gi-Oh GX (8.7) vs. Dragon Ball Z (15.5); and Mirada de Mujer (4.6) vs. Saksi (10.0), Emergency (8.4), I-Witness (8.6), Reporter’s Notebook
(7.8), Debate with Mare at Pare (4.9), and 100% Pinoy (7.9).

Based on AGBNMR Philippines’ Mega Manila TV Households data for May 2006, all the shows launched by GMA Network last month posted impressive ratings versus their counterparts on ABS-CBN.
Sadly, none of the shows ABS-CBN launched last month rated higher than their GMA-7 rival programs.
On May 1, GMA-7 premiered Asianovelas Gokusen and Love of the Condor Heroes. Gokusen posted an average rating of 20.5 for May 2006 versus ABS-CBN’s Eternal Love (launched on the same date and airing at the same time), which got a miserable 7.7 percent.
Gokusen also registered an average rating of 20.1 versus the local soap launched by ABS-CBN on May 29 in the same timeslot. Calla Lily, which nobody really knows what it is all about, garnered a dismal 10.9 percent.
Condor Heroes has been consistently rating high despite the three ABS-CBN programs pitted against it; it scored 32.7, while. Sa Piling Mo simply mustered 28.4 percent. Against Pinoy Big Brother (Teen Edition)’s 26.4, Condor Heroes soared with 32.0 percent. Even Panday hasn’t got the power (it rated a depressing 18.6 percent) to kick the Chinese Heroes out of the screens with its strong 33.3 average.
GMA-7’s Fantastikids (launched on May 6) earned the nod of the viewers and gave it a high of 20.2 percent, edging out PBB Teen Special Update, which only took in 12.4 percent and Komiks with similarly weak showing of 17.2 percent.
GMA-7’s rerun of the phenomenal Endless Love 1: Autumn in My Heart in the afternoon slot starting May 8 rated 12.6 versus. ABS-CBN’s Pasion de Amor’s 9.3. It also posted a high 10.4 vs. Eternal Love’s (moved to an earlier timeslot when Calla Lily took its early prime slot) 5.0.
I Luv New York (which premiered on May 15) averaged 35.4 against Big Brother Teen Edition’s 21.9. Both are aired at the same time.
ABS-CBN launched the Koreanovela My Girl on May 29, thinking the Korenanovela mania could stave off GMA 7’s high on I Love New York. Sorry, folk, but My Girl at 19.6 average couldn’t get past New York at 34.9.
GMA-7’s weekend Cooking in the Palace (launched on May 20) also posted a high 16.8 average, while ABS-CBN’s Wedding settled for 7.0.
Since it was launched on May 29, GMA-7’s newest telefantasya Captain Barbell has been dominating the ratings on primetime. It averaged 39.3 for the last part of May against Bituing Walang Ningning’s lackluster rating of 24.3.
Before Captain Barbell, Bituing Walang Ningning (which premiered on May 15) already showed weakness when it averaged only 26.9 on the last few weeks of GMA-7’s Extra Challenge, which scored 30.3.
Other programs launched by ABS-CBN in May also failed to get past show on GMA-7 Only You By Request (9.0) versus House Husband (16.9); Wansapanataym (9.6) versus Doraemon (17.6) and One Piece (17.9); Kim Possible (3.2) versus Medabots (8.1); and the relaunch of Ok Fine! Oh Yes! (10.5) versus Jewel in the Palace (34.5) and Lagot Ka Isusumbong Kita (18.6).
Mike Enriquez, Kapuso forever
With GMA 7 winning the network war, how can Mike Enriquez even harbor the thought of moving to ABS-CBN?]
It’s not logical, right. Remember when ABS-CBN was no. 1, it was the dream of many actors, singers, news reporters and news anchors to move to the network, and many of them did, and look where they are now.
I am glad to know that there are individuals like Baby Michael (that was Mike’s radio ID many years back when TV was the exclusive domain of good looking mestizoids) whose loyalty to the network that gave him the break to become what he is now in the media is unwavering.
Mike recently signed a two-year contract with GMA Network Chairman, President and CEO Felipe L. Gozon.
Aside from anchoring GMA Network’s top rating primetime newscast 24 Oras and leading public affairs program Imbestigador, Enriquez is also on the radio. He is the voice on “Saksi sa Dobol B,” the network’s flagship radio station, DZBB.
Enriquez is also GMA Network’s Senior Vice President for Radio Operations.
mga mukha nyo!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wag kayo mag ilusyon!
GMA tlaga ang no.1
I’ll explain your claim!!!!!
You said GMA is no. 1 only in Mega Manila and Iloilo but not in Dagupan, Davao and Cebu, ryt?
But don’t you know that 80% of the total viewer’s comes from Mega Manila so if we will try to get the over all ratings nationwide, still GMA7 will lead!!!!!
At sa mga nag iilusyon dyan, wag sana kayong ma mislead!!!!!!!!

The Philippine Star
METRO MANILA, APRIL 3, 2006 (STAR) By Zinnia Dela Peña – Broadcasting firm GMA Network Inc. continues to edge out its main rival in the ratings game with total day ratings of 18.4 percent as of February compared with ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp.’s 14.3 percent, according to industry ratings provider AGBNMR Phils.
Data from AGBNMR show that as of February this year, 17 out of the top 30 TV programs were from GMA-7 with the network’s primetime programs occupying the top spots.
GMA’s regional news programs in Iloilo, Cebu, and Davao as well as its national primetime news program 24 Oras also led the ratings in these areas.
Last year, GMA maintained its lead in Mega Manila TV ratings in all day parts, including the highly contested primetime block.
GMA began overtaking ABS-CBN in total day ratings since late December of 2003, but it began to decisively lead in ratings across all time blocks in 2004, including the most coveted early primetime block.
2005 proved to be another banner year for GMA with its net profit hitting the year-end target of P2 billion, an increase of 34 percent from the previous year’s P1.5 billion. Gross revenues rose 24 percent to P9.7 billion from P7.8 billion.
Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) amounted to P3.6 billion last year, 27 percent higher than the year ago level.
Operating expenses grew 25 percent to P5.2 billion, largely due to higher production cost as it fielded three big-budget “telefantasyas” including “Darna,” “Encantadia” and “Sugo,” as opposed to only one in 2004.
The promotions for QTV, the launching of GMA Pinoy TV, and the regional awareness campaigns of the network also contributed to the increase in operating expenses.
Since its launch in November 2005, QTV Channel 11 has maintained its hold on the number three spot in ratings.
Apart from this, GMA upgraded its transmitter and other technical facilities in Cebu and Davao, and installed its new transmitter in Bacolod. More improvements are also expected to be implemented in other key cities in the country.
GMA also announced that Pinoy TV, its international channel, already had 80,000 subscribers as of March. GMA programs can now be seen in the US, Japan, Guam, and Malaysia last year and the Middle East and Cerritos, California.
