Glaiza de Castro graduated from high school last March 26 and the pretty and talented young actress plans to take up Mass Communications in college. She’s still looking for a school in which to enroll. She will be entering college at the same time with her younger brother. Glaiza had to quit school for one year when she became busy with her showbiz commitments.

She’s happy that despite her busy schedule, she found the resolve to finish high school. She’s looking forward to facing a new life as college freshman, together with her brother who is planning to take up Information Technology.

Glaiza’s in the cast of the new Regal Entertainment movie titled White Lady that features Angelica Panganiban in the lead role. She’s being managed by director Manny Valera and ABS-CBN Star Magic.

Aside from doing White Lady, she has also started work on her album under Dyna Records. She has finished recording four songs for her new album.

She’s also in the cast of the comedy flick Manay Po where she plays the girlfriend of Polo Ravales who didn’t know that her boyfriend is a closet gay. “I was hurt when I found out the truth since we were already planning to get married,” says Glaiza of her role.

Her other film projects include Sukob where she plays the role of Claudine Barretto’s cousin, and a new project featuring the tandem of John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo. Both projects are under Star Cinema.

Speaking of Glaiza de Castro, tila ang debutante na ito mula sa Valenzuela City is making up for lost time.

Gusto siguro ng manager niyang si Manny Valera to keep her busy.

GMA poised to reach target with P1.044B net income in H1

Leading broadcast company GMA Network, Inc. remains on track of reaching its year-end target as it posted a net income of P1.044 billion for the first six months of 2005, 39 percent higher than its net profit of P752 million for the same period last year.

Gross revenues for the first six months reached P4.5 billion, an increase of 24% over last year’s P3.6 billion for the same period. Revenues from both TV and radio operations posted increases during the first half of the year.

Operating expenses grew 20% to P2.07 billion due to higher production costs, salaries, and other expenses as the Network features three primetime “super soaps” that have helped solidify GMA-7’s lead in TV ratings particularly in the much coveted early primetime block.

Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization stood at P1.9 billion during the first half of the year, 29% higher than last year’s figures.

Felipe L. Gozon, GMA Network chairman, president and CEO, is optimistic that the company will finish strong this year and expects more positive results after the Network completed its expansion projects.

“Once our regional and international expansion efforts are completely in place, we expect to improve further on our performance,” he said.

Gozon is also confident that the Network can proceed with the much-awaited IPO by early next year.

GMA continues to lead in TV ratings in all day parts, including the highly important primetime block. For the period January to June 2005, GMA posted an average total day ratings of 18.8% against its competitor’s 13.8%, based on data from AGB Philippines.

Seventeen of the top 20 programs for the first six months of 2005 were from GMA based on data from Nielsen while according to AGB data, 14 GMA programs were among the top 20. GMA launched “Sugo” on July 4, another primetime hit which helped maintain the Network’s strong ratings performance in primetime.

GMA continues to hold on-the-ground activities in key cities across the country to increase awareness among local viewers of its top-rating programs. The Network has been showcasing its best public affairs documentaries and has been providing free medical services in major cities, among other relevant activities, that have created lasting impact among its viewers.

GMA also launched nationwide the third edition of its highly-popular reality-based “artista” search, Starstruck, over the weekend.

GMA’s international channel, GMA Pinoy TV, was successfully launched on July 23 in San Francisco, USA. After only two days of launching the channel, GMA Pinoy TV already has thousands of subscribers in the Bay Area, which according to Comcast, the US cable carrier, broke the records for ethnic programs. GMA Pinoy TV is also available in Japan and Guam.

GMA Network is expected to begin airing programs for Channel 11 by November this year, providing an additional platform for GMA to showcase new programs and talents.

GMA Films’ latest flick will be shown in major theaters nationwide soon and the film outfit is producing a movie version of the primetime hit, “Mulawin,” in time for the Metro Manila Film Festival in December.

GMA 7 hits 2005 profit target of P2B

Inquirer

GMA NETWORK INC. has announced that it hit its 2005 net income target of P2 billion, or 34 percent higher than the P1.5 billion in 2004. It said consolidated gross revenues grew 24 percent to P9.7 billion from P7.8 billion in 2004. However, operating expenses also jumped 25 percent to P5.2 billion last year, driven primarily by higher production costs. The network fielded three big-budget fantasy series or “telefantasyas” in 2005, including “Darna,” “Encantadia” and “Sugo,” compared with one in 2004.
New programs were also produced and aired on its free QTV Channel 11, which was launched in November last year. The promotions for QTV, the launching of GMA Pinoy TV, and the regional awareness campaigns of the network also contributed to the increase in operating expenses, the company said. In 2005, GMA maintained its lead in Mega Manila TV ratings in all day parts, including the highly contested primetime block. As of February this year, GMA posted total day ratings of 18.4 percent versus ABS-CBN’s 14.3 percent, according to data from ratings firm AGBNMR. AGBNMR data also showed that as of February this year, 17 out of the top 30 TV programs were from GMA with the network’s primetime programs occupying the top spots. GMA Network’s regional news programs in Iloilo, Cebu and Davao as well as its national primetime news program “24 Oras” also took the top spot in ratings in those areas. GMA Network prepaid the balance of its five-year long term loan of P1.9 billion last February, nine months ahead of the scheduled due date of November 2005. Primarily using internally generated funds, GMA Network paid more than P543 million in principal and interest. In terms of its regional expansion, the company said it has upgraded its transmitter and other technical facilities in Cebu and Davao and has installed a transmitter in Bacolod.

GMA earlier said it would set aside about P900 million for capital expenses this year.

It said GMA Pinoy TV, which was launched in the United States, Japan, Guam and Malaysia last year and the Middle East and Cerritos, California, this year, continued to increase its subscriber base, exceeding 80,000 as of March this year.

Unbeatable

Here’s an article:

“Wow, ang lakas naman ng Captain Barbell at Majika. They nearly have a 40% lead over the competition.

ABS-CBN can do 3 things:

1. Put their best shows to compete head to head with CB/Majika’s 1-2 punch; or
2. Offer alternative programming to CB/Majika (which is basically admitting defeat); or
3. Just crank out superior shows vs. CB/Majika and dictate programming

I have a feeling that ABS-CBN has tried everything and have just fallen short of their own expectations of themselves. They failed miserably in producing their own fantasy series in Panday (I blame Heart for getting pregnant, haha). They failed miserably in their Koreanovela offerings. They destroyed Maricel Soriano’s star power in Vietnam Rose (and continue to do so with Vilma Santos and Sharon Cuneta). And they’ve relied too much on a non-Filipino franchise that encourages voyeurism. I’ve read that they are now bringing Deal or No Deal to primetime. Deal or No Deal had good ratings here in the U.S. but it didn’t dominate like American Idol or Grey’s Anatomy. In fact, it was a winner only on an off-day like Monday or when the other networks were showing reruns. It would hardly make a dent on any other day. So the idea that they are showing this every night in Manila is laughable — they are going to run that show to the ground in one week or less. Don’t they already give a lot of money on Eat Bulaga and Wowowee? ABS-CBN will have to give out a lot of money and cast really greedy and stupid contestants.

GMA PinoyTV will show I Luv NY next week replacing Encantadia: Pag-ibig Hanggang Wakas.

I Love New York has officially ended. So sad. But still, they lead the game.

Ratings of new shows on GMA-7 keep ABS-CBN a far second

GMA Network has a lot to be happy about these days. Not only is it marking its 56th anniversary this month, it has also maintained a solid hold on the no. 1 spot despite efforts of ABS-CBN to denigrate the success of the Kapuso network.

Based on AGBNMR Philippines’ Mega Manila TV Households data for May 2006, all the shows launched by GMA Network last month posted impressive ratings versus their counterparts on ABS-CBN.

Sadly, none of the shows ABS-CBN launched last month rated higher than their GMA-7 rival programs.

On May 1, GMA-7 premiered Asianovelas Gokusen and Love of the Condor Heroes. Gokusen posted an average rating of 20.5 for May 2006 versus ABS-CBN’s Eternal Love (launched on the same date and airing at the same time), which got a miserable 7.7 percent.

Gokusen also registered an average rating of 20.1 versus the local soap launched by ABS-CBN on May 29 in the same timeslot. Calla Lily, which nobody really knows what it is all about, garnered a dismal 10.9 percent.

Condor Heroes has been consistently rating high despite the three ABS-CBN programs pitted against it; it scored 32.7, while. Sa Piling Mo simply mustered 28.4 percent. Against Pinoy Big Brother (Teen Edition)’s 26.4, Condor Heroes soared with 32.0 percent. Even Panday hasn’t got the power (it rated a depressing 18.6 percent) to kick the Chinese Heroes out of the screens with its strong 33.3 average.

GMA-7’s Fantastikids (launched on May 6) earned the nod of the viewers and gave it a high of 20.2 percent, edging out PBB Teen Special Update, which only took in 12.4 percent and Komiks with similarly weak showing of 17.2 percent.

GMA-7’s rerun of the phenomenal Endless Love 1: Autumn in My Heart in the afternoon slot starting May 8 rated 12.6 versus. ABS-CBN’s Pasion de Amor’s 9.3. It also posted a high 10.4 vs. Eternal Love’s (moved to an earlier timeslot when Calla Lily took its early prime slot) 5.0.

I Luv New York (which premiered on May 15) averaged 35.4 against Big Brother Teen Edition’s 21.9. Both are aired at the same time.

ABS-CBN launched the Koreanovela My Girl on May 29, thinking the Korenanovela mania could stave off GMA 7’s high on I Love New York. Sorry, folk, but My Girl at 19.6 average couldn’t get past New York at 34.9.

GMA-7’s weekend Cooking in the Palace (launched on May 20) also posted a high 16.8 average, while ABS-CBN’s Wedding settled for 7.0.

Since it was launched on May 29, GMA-7’s newest telefantasya Captain Barbell has been dominating the ratings on primetime. It averaged 39.3 for the last part of May against Bituing Walang Ningning’s lackluster rating of 24.3.

Before Captain Barbell, Bituing Walang Ningning (which premiered on May 15) already showed weakness when it averaged only 26.9 on the last few weeks of GMA-7’s Extra Challenge, which scored 30.3.

Other programs launched by ABS-CBN in May also failed to get past show on GMA-7 Only You By Request (9.0) versus House Husband (16.9); Wansapanataym (9.6) versus Doraemon (17.6) and One Piece (17.9); Kim Possible (3.2) versus Medabots (8.1); and the relaunch of Ok Fine! Oh Yes! (10.5) versus Jewel in the Palace (34.5) and Lagot Ka Isusumbong Kita (18.6).

Mike Enriquez, Kapuso forever

With GMA 7 winning the network war, how can Mike Enriquez even harbor the thought of moving to ABS-CBN?]

It’s not logical, right. Remember when ABS-CBN was no. 1, it was the dream of many actors, singers, news reporters and news anchors to move to the network, and many of them did, and look where they are now.

I am glad to know that there are individuals like Baby Michael (that was Mike’s radio ID many years back when TV was the exclusive domain of good looking mestizoids) whose loyalty to the network that gave him the break to become what he is now in the media is unwavering.

Mike recently signed a two-year contract with GMA Network Chairman, President and CEO Felipe L. Gozon.

Aside from anchoring GMA Network’s top rating primetime newscast 24 Oras and leading public affairs program Imbestigador, Enriquez is also on the radio. He is the voice on “Saksi sa Dobol B,” the network’s flagship radio station, DZBB.

Enriquez is also GMA Network’s Senior Vice President for Radio Operations.

GMA tlaga ang no.1
I’ll explain your claim!!!!!
You said GMA is no. 1 only in Mega Manila and Iloilo but not in Dagupan, Davao and Cebu, ryt?
But don’t you know that 80% of the total viewer’s comes from Mega Manila so if we will try to get the over all ratings nationwide, still GMA7 will lead!!!!!
At sa mga nag iilusyon dyan, wag sana kayong ma mislead!!!!!!!!
